Parsing the M2M Bull Market – A Preview of MobileCON 2012

Autumn is in the air and around KORE that means only one thing: MobileCON is upon us! Formerly known as CTIA Enterprise & Applications, the re-branded show is set up to concentrate exclusively on the needs of enterprise-minded attendees—primarily corporate and government IT professionals. From our industry’s humble beginnings in the M2M Zone, to this year seeing M2M take center stage as a “billion dollar business” opportunity,  KORE is proud to be one of the original “regulars” at this annual event and I’d like to offer some poignant observations on the eve of the 2012 edition. 

M2M has made its mark as an enterprise initiative, but the eco-system still has a number of development, deployment and fiscal challenges to iron out. These revolve largely around technology lifecycle issues related to 2G sunsetting, as well as maintaining unencumbered device connectivity on a global scale. KORE has built its business to solve these issues head-on.

Telehealth is the breakout segment for M2M. Based on our interactions during the past 12 months, healthcare stakeholders are really starting to understand how M2M fits with specific use case scenarios. In fact, the medical segment has become the single largest source of new device additions on the KORE network. To support this market maturation, KORE will headline the “Wireless Healthcare Pavilion” (Booth 1024) this year, demonstrating a number of in-field consumer devices for sleep apnea, vital sign monitoring, diabetes management and blood pressure control, among others.

M2M platforms mean business. At the recent M2M Evolution event, KORE was excited (but not surprised!) to learn that our PRiSMPro service management platform had been judged as a “Best Platform” at the inaugural Battle of the Platforms event. The designation validates the importance we have placed on addressing real business needs with quick, scalable implementations that reduce costs, improve efficiency and drive profitability. Finally, I would like to spotlight our own industry leader and President Alex Brisbourne, who is taking the stage not once, but twice at MobileCON. He’ll be exploring major application and technical advances in M2M in “M2M: Unlocking the Market Potential” on October 9. Then he’ll walk MobileCON attendees through cost and deployment checklists in the session “Enterprises Calculate the Total Cost of Ownership” on October 10.
