‘Short Burst Data’ Satellite Network Services
The KORE Global Connect Satellite Services are delivered via Iridium’s 66 low Earth orbit delivering services using a unique, resilient mesh service delivery architecture where satellites have inter-satellite broadcast capabilities between one another in space. With low latency averaging 10-20 seconds and satellites at varying angles, service delivery is consistent, even within urban areas containing high density commercial office space.
Satellite Services are available as a single or dual mode connection option as they can complement an existing, cellular-based solution. When a device connects via the KORE Network, it transmits at the lowest cost, highest coverage option available based on its physical location. The powerful combination of cellular and satellite M2M network services also allows for satellite-based devices to receive important firmware updates via cellular connectivity, which typically cannot be pushed via satellite due to file size and other limitations.

KORE Satellite Service Descriptions
Short Burst Data Service
KORE Satellite Services provide global Short Burst Data Service (SBD). SBD is a simple and efficient satellite network transport capability to transmit short data messages between field equipment and a centralized host computing system. The maximum Mobile Originated (MO) SBD is 340 Bytes and Mobile Terminated (MT) SBD message size is 270 Bytes. The message size is applicable to Iridium 9601 & 9602 devices. Dual mode edge devices combine satellite and cellular in a single device, giving you the best of both worlds. This capability is perfect for applications that need to have 100% availability with a variety of reporting requirements. For instance, the device may cache large data reports for delivery when not in cellular coverage for delivery when in cell coverage while reporting GPS and other alarm conditions while in satellite coverage only.
Short Burst Data Delivered to Devices and Applications
Image
SBD routes data transmissions through space. In addition to communicating with the satellite devices in its footprint, each satellite in the constellation also maintains contact with two to four adjacent satellites, and routes data between them, to effectively create a large mesh network. Station-to-station data from one device to another can be routed directly through space without going through an earth station. As satellites leave the area of an earth station, the routing tables are updated and packets headed for the earth station are forwarded to the next satellite just coming into view of the earth station. Communication between satellites and earth stations is at 20 and 30 GHz.
| |
Delivery to KORE from the Iridium Gateway is via secure VPN interconnect over redundant paths typical of all KORE carrier interconnects. |
| |
Delivery to KORE customers is typical of all KORE data services via email gateway or IP over VPNs or the Internet. |
Devices Supported on KORE Satellite Services
| |
Iridium 9602 Transceiver - The Iridium 9602 Short Burst Data Only Transceiver (9602) is designed to be integrated into a wireless data application with other host system hardware and software to produce a full solution designed for a specific application or vertical market. |
| |
The 9602 is a single board transceiver provided as a “black box” transceiver module with all device interfaces provided by a single multi-pin interface connector in addition to the antenna connector. The product only provides the core transceiver. All other end user field application functions such as GPS, microprocessor based logic control, digital and analog inputs, digital and analog outputs, power supply and antenna must be provided by the solution developer. This is equivalent to a CDMA or GSM module. |
| |
Previous generation 9601 transceivers are also supported on the KORE Satellite Service. This product is no longer available for new solutions. |
Dual Mode Devices Supported-Satellite and Cellular
| |
Dual mode devices with integrated 9602 transceivers are available from Digi, NAL, Quake Global. |
Service Plans Available for Satellite Services
