Agreement Provides Coast-to-Coast Coverage On America’s Largest High-Speed National Wireless Data Network; Machine-to-Machine Developers Benefit From KORE/Cingular Technical Resources
Las Vegas, NV — 5th April 2006 —KORE Wireless Inc. today announced the immediate availability of GSM-based GPRS/EDGE wireless services to machine-to-machine (M2M) application developers via Cingular Wireless. Through this new service arrangement, M2M developers can enjoy coast-to-coast coverage and fast access to Cingular Wireless’ network, as well as direct interconnect to KORE/Cingular Wireless technical resources for faster fault diagnosis and repair.
Through the direct delivery of Cingular Wireless data services covering SMS and GPRS/EDGE, KORE Wireless is uniquely able to tailor products and service delivery to the fast-growing M2M application market. The combined capabilities of KORE and Cingular provide M2M developers with faster time-to-market and reliable service delivery as those customers migrate from older, proprietary digital or analog solutions.
According to Strategy Analytics, an independent global research company, there may be more than 100 million machine subscribers in North America by the year 2010. Machine-to-machine applications are those requiring real-time, continuous data transmission between two locations, e.g., remote oil well equipment monitoring, vehicle traffic data, or blood pressure monitoring of homebased patients.
Driving the growth in M2M services are the superior economics of GSM. "We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg in M2M applications at present. But new providers are emerging with lasting value models and very large planned deployments," noted Alex Brisbourne, president and chief operating officer of KORE Wireless. "When a power utility or mass transit authority implements M2M services, deployments can very quickly move from 100 to tens of thousands of devices as economics and markets mature. This agreement between KORE and Cingular Wireless addresses a powerful new category of wireless data services where high-volume customers are the norm, as opposed to traditional segments where customers are won one person at a time."
Comprehensive Support Adding significant value to this agreement between Cingular Wireless and KORE is KORE’s comprehensive back-office service capabilities including messaging platforms, usage and billing management, advanced diagnostics and applications test platforms. KORE has also integrated its unique PRISM 24/7, a Web-based portal for real-time in-field device management into the Cingular network service systems.
The result is a win for application developers and their customers. Applications can not only be tested and approved, but also new devices from OEM providers can be accurately assessed through the KORE test center to assist in network approval.
Cingular Wireless’ GPRS/EDGE network is the largest national high-speed wireless data network in the U.S., with availability in 13,000 cities and towns and along nearly 40,000 miles of major highways. Due to KORE’s direct interconnect of web provisioning and subscriber systems, KORE customers using Cingular Wireless will be assured of continuous and comprehensive support.
"KORE Wireless services were designed from the outset for the M2M marketplace," continues Brisbourne. "It takes a great deal of advanced system design to deliver highly reliable, yet low costper-month, M2M services. This new agreement with Cingular Wireless will allow us to take this service quality to a new level. Our goal is to facilitate exceptional experiences for our customers’ end users by offering better tools as well as state-of-the-art data access services." In field test since September 2005, these services are immediately available coast-to-coast in all markets.
