San Francisco – 25th October 2004:—Sony Ericsson, and KORE Wireless Inc. today announced an agreement to provide flexible, aggregated GSM and GPRS airtime services designed to speed wireless developers to delivery of end-to-end services to end-users. Using the KORE Wireless MVNO network, which spans over 41,000 cell sites in North America, and provides resilient, flat-rated services across the AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile and Microcell (Canada) networks, Sony Ericsson Authorized Partners can take advantage of a wide range of services designed specifically for the fast-growing M2Mm (Machine-to-Machine) marketplace.

"The challenge for M2M Applications Providers continues to be the ability to connect to GSM networks quickly, cost-effectively and with the special needs associated with machine communications," commented Roger Dewey, Vice President Sony Ericsson Americas. "Mainstream wireless operators are naturally focused on the market for high revenue per subscriber, consumer-oriented, markets.

But, the M2M market is exploding, and a different type of service is needed, emphasizing technical integration, reliability and the ability to provide low costs for low usage. This need has been met squarely by KORE Wireless," concluded Dewey. Under this agreement, KORE Wireless has provided a rapid approvals system for a wide range of Sony Ericsson M2M device modules, allowing developers to take advantage of the model to suit their particular needs. Additionally, airtime services, supported on custom SIM cards provided by KORE Wireless, range from simple pre-paid 'Developer Packages' intended for short-term use in early prototyping, right through to customized programs allowing applications providers to include airtime services as an integrated part of their service offering, requiring no separate operator bills or service fees.

"The KORE services were designed from the outset for the M2M marketplace", commented Alex Brisbourne, COO KORE Wireless Inc. "As an MVNO focused exclusively on servicing this market, we have optimized service design for applications needing the minimum of human interface. Our partners have complete control of field SIM inventory, activation and device profile services and, additionally, we provide fully aggregated traffic rating. This allows very cost-effective delivery of wireless applications when only limited payloads are needed by most M2M devices". With M2M monthly ARPU measured in dollars, not tens of dollars, this is an area in which streamlined services, with great reliability, are a must for success", concluded Brisbourne. The services are already available and are in the process of being adopted by a number of Sony Ericsson partners, a number of whom will be exhibiting at the CTIA show.
